In eukaryotes, the SLC35 family of solute carriers are responsible for their selective uptake into the Endoplasmic Reticulum or Golgi apparatus. The SLC35 family is highly conserved type III transmembrane proteins that are divided into 7 subfamilies (SLC35A-G). SLC35E1 belongs to the TPT transporter family and SLC35E subfamily.
